Xperiments are Project X-ITE’s internships for credit. Each quarter, cross-disciplinary student teams work at a local high-growth company to help solve problems in an experiential learning setting.

Xperiment teams are set to work on a 10-week program designed to give them real-world business experience, get an insider look at local companies, and collaborate with companies to solve real-time problems.

Company-based projects should relate to the Project X-ITE mission and generally share a common structure: cross-discipline initiatives that can benefit from quick-hitting, part-time project work from a small team, typically consisting of carefully selected, subject-matter qualified students.

What makes the Xperiments experience unique?

What past participants are saying…

It’s been a lot of fun, and more rewarding I feel and more of a real-life experience instead of ‘do this assignment’, ‘take this test’. You get to deal with real problems and real challenges with other people.

I haven’t had any experience in entrepreneurship or developing my own ideas, so this has given me a good foundation for how I can approach developing my own solutions or my own company in the future

It was really interesting because we got to work with a lot of professionals in the industry … it was different from a class because it wasn’t just sitting there reading or listening to a professor, it was really engaging. I got to learn a lot from the other students in my group because we all have very different areas of study.

I learned more about the process of designing a project or a product, real world expectations, and having to learn on your own and teach yourself a lot.

Project Overview

The North Business Unit for DCP Midstream (primarily based in Weld County, CO), transports condensate from 15 pick-up locations to 5 drop-off or sales point locations (see map). A field operator monitors tanks levels across each of the 15 sites, schedules trucks to pick up loads and coordinates with plant operators at each of the drop-off or sales point locations to deliver the truckloads. DCP incurs logistics costs for the transportation of the product to the sales points. There are at least 3 price points at our sales locations.

The objective of the project is to deliver algorithms and business process changes to minimize the costs of moving the product while maximizing the value of the product sold. The pickup locations have storage limitations and the drop-off locations have storage and processing limitations. The solution should not impact normal gathering and processing operations.

Project Overview

Following are the rough descriptions of the ideas we’d like to pursue (1) Internal Deal Scorecard to score and calculate each investment opportunity based upon qualitative and quantitative measures. We would need the ability to add/revise/delete scoring criteria, weights and scores (2) “Tinder for Investments” where our team would like, ‘super like’ or dislike investment opportunities based upon select deal criteria (including the opportunity’s score) (3) Internal Due Diligence Wiki where our team would search from our inventory questions to ask based upon the type or stage of the investment opportunity, tags, etc. Ideally, the team would have the ability to enter the answer to each question, add hyperlinks or attach corresponding materials and measure completeness of each individual investment opportunity. We would need the ability to add/revise/delete questions, answers or attachments (4) Investor Portal a secured website for our investors to access our reporting and materials related to investment opportunities, deal flow, and fund performance

We’re looking for a team to help prepare our second product launch this spring. We have sold $200,000+ in preorders worldwide already and there are lots of details to finish: tweaking the final product design, coordinating our beta program, developing our new brand, and much more. This is not a case study – you will see your work being used by 20,000+ customers.

Your first week will be working directly with our customers and then we’ll break off into smaller teams from there to manage the individual responsibilities. Think of it like a “chose your own adventure” book except with more alcohol.
